Material selection and performance analysis of plastic moulds is very important because it will directly affect the service life, cost and production efficiency of the moulds. The following are the common material selection and performance analysis of plastic moulds:
1. Steel material
Steel material is one of the most commonly used plastic mold materials. The main types include ordinary carbon steel, alloy steel, tool steel and stainless steel. Different types of steel materials have different hardness, wear resistance and corrosion resistance properties. For example, tool steel is usually used to make high quality and high precision products because of its high hardness and high wear resistance.
2. Aluminum alloy materials
Aluminum alloy material is another commonly used plastic mold material. Compared with steel, aluminum alloy material has lighter weight, higher thermal conductivity and better machinability. However, the hardness and wear resistance of aluminum alloy material is not as good as steel material, so it is not suitable for manufacturing high precision and high quality products.
3. Copper alloy materials
Copper alloy materials are usually used to make small and precise molds, such as housings and connectors for electronic products. Copper alloy materials have good electrical and thermal conductivity, as well as high hardness and wear resistance.
In general, it is very important to choose the appropriate plastic mold material. It needs to be considered according to the requirements of the product, production efficiency and cost. For high quality and high precision products, materials with better hardness and wear resistance such as tool steel are usually chosen; for small and precision products, materials with better electrical and thermal conductivity such as copper alloy are usually chosen.
